and red roses, too.
i see them bloom
for her and you
and i keep thinking to myself,
"what a wonderful world,"
but i don't know why.
i see skies of blue
and clouds of white
your bright blessed day
my dark, sacred night
and i think to myself, by myself
"what a wonderful world,"
and then, i know why
the colors of the rainbow,
so pretty in the sky
are also on the faces
of people going by, except you
i see friends shaking hands
saying, "how do you do?"
they're really saying
"i love you,"
but you're not.
i hear babies cry
i watch them grow (except yours)
they'll learn much more
than i'll ever know,
but i hope not.
and i still think to myself,
"what a wonderful world"
though sometimes, it just isn't.
yeah, i think to myself
what a wonderful world

a really happy sigh
has it always been this way?
is it possible that all this
ma gic went unnoticed?
may be now things will start to change
and life will
turn a better page;
no more rain
(and no
more
rage).

uncontrollably so
i thought i wanted to listen to iron and wine's version of "such great heights," because i thought it would make me less angry, but i was wrong. so some guy thinks he can whisper some lyrics, big fucking deal. it's not the best version of the song, so shut up. i'm fucking angry.
but for the past couple weeks i've just been really uncontrollably upset. i don't know why, but i'm becoming more and more apathetic towards it. it's funny because a year ago this would have made me shaky and depressed and i would be writing a lot about it. a lot of shit little poems and crap excuses for songs. but this year, i'm just angry and i don't give a fuck.
but i tried to leave the past behind,
i tried to drown your words in wine
but even through that red, i know
the things you said will never be like snow.
just as caterpillars grow their wings
and tadpoles lose their tails and things
i'm taking what i need from this and shedding what i don't,
so when i've left this all behind
and broken what was left of mine
you may forgive yourself, in time, but you can bet your words i won't.
